North East artistic bike rack installed & Let’s Move Outside kicks off

The first of five North East artistic bikes racks is installed in front of Lake Country Bike and Subway and Let’s Move Outside kicks off it’s fourth year running after winning a 2015 Pennsylvania Route 6 “Do 6” Heritage Partnership Award for demonstrating excellence in historic preservation, cultural preservation, interpretation, and/or education through cross-corridor thinking and interagency cooperation.

 

Perry 200 artistic bike rack design unveiled

The last design in the series of four artistic racks for the City of Erie was unveiled and installed on French and 4th Streets.

 

Local chiropractor bikes 308 miles in 24 hours for Cystic Fibrosis

Over 24 straight hours, Erie Chiropractor, Dr. Steven Krauza, rode nearly 308 miles around Presque Isle. This is the second year Dr. Krauza rode his bike around the Peninsula to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Erie’s 2nd annual Ride of Silence on May 15, 2013

The Bike Erie coalition and many community members came together to ride in honor of Joann Kowalski, an Erie resident who was killed in a crash on May 2, 2013. The Ride of Silence serves to honor those who have been killed or injured while riding a bicycle. News coverage of the ride can be found here.

 

Erie’s 1st annual Ride of Silence in May of 2012

Bike Erie hosted Erie’s first Ride of Silence (RoS) on September 28, 2012.  Here are some of the photos that Erie Times News took of the event, as well as the article that they wrote.  We also have some images that are posted on Facebook. We are really looking forward to planning another successful RoS in May of 2013.

 

New bike lane in Millcreek Township

Millcreek Township is building a 5 foot wide bike lane on each side of Asbury Road. This action is the first bike lane improvement in Erie County in many years.  The lane is 2/3 mile long and is from 38th street to Neptune Lane with plans to add to its length in the future.

Poor health of Erie citizens

Here’s a story from the Times about the general health of people living in Erie County.  The report stated 65% are obese, many are suffering from depression, and few of us have an active lifestyle.
