What Is the National Bike Challenge?

The Challenge is a nationwide event uniting thousands of people who bike — and encouraging countless new riders. It is a fun, free and easy way to challenge yourself, your family, friends, colleagues and community to ride more while enjoying some friendly competition on the local, state and national levels. Join the local Erie challenge for 2015 by clicking here.

How Does it Work?

You sign up and track your progress at www.NationalBikeChallenge.org, which allows you to not only see your progress, but also the progress of your team, workplace, community, state as well as the overall impact of everyone’s involvement around the nation.

When Does the Challenge Take Place?

Every year, the challenge takes place from May 1 to September 30, but there’s no need to wait until 2015 – you can sign up now and start using the system… it just won’t be as exciting and prize-filled until May.

Who Can Participate?

Anyone and everyone! No matter how often you bike, what type of bike you have or if you bike for transportation or recreation, it’s all fun and counts toward the Challenge. Across the US, National Bike Challenge participants numbered nearly 50,000 last year!

What About Your Organization, Agency or Business?

From small “mom and pop” shops to nonprofits to established companies like Wells Fargo with thousands of employees; there are all kinds of employers that take part. If you’re a large employer, you can create many different teams by department or however you want to set it up.

Here is a great guide and toolkit to help your organization get involved. If you still need some assistance, feel free to contact us at any time by emailing Contact@BikeErie.org. We are already working with two Erie employers to get them to participate in 2015 and we’d love to add many more organizations to the growing list!

Why Should Your Organization Get Involved?

It’s fun, it’s free and, most importantly, the National Bike Challenge makes for a great turnkey health and wellness initiative for your entire organization. It’s also a great way to build office camaraderie and culture through reaching a common goal, such as beating a rival business or branch and helping the Erie community trounce other communities!
