Bike Erie is a leader, facilitator, guide and advocate for efforts and developments that help to make Erie safe, accessible and enjoyable to bike and walk. We advocate for infrastructure and policy developments that make biking and walking safer, more accessible and less stressful for everyone.

Some of the Developments that We Support, Are Advocating for and/or Are Helping to Make a Reality

  • A county bike corridor that connects cities and towns within Erie County to one another in order to help make healthy transportation and recreation safer, easier to access, and more enjoyable.
  • Bike networks within cities and towns throughout Erie County.Walking to School
  • Complete Streets Policies that help to achieve a bike corridor and bike networks.
  • Updated and revised ordinances and zoning related to biking and walking within the City of Erie.
  • We support and promote the development of the Erie-to-Pittsburgh Trail (over 50% complete).
  • We support and promote the development of the Industrial Heartland Trail (over 53% complete).
  • City of Erie urban trail (depending on the routes, approximately 50 percent complete).
    • A potential idea that we put forth in which the existing 9-mile long bayfront bikeway AKA bayfront multi-use path is utilized to create an approximately 15 to 20 mile urban trail near the boundaries of the City of Erie. This urban trail would be a part of a healthy transportation and recreation network within the City of Erie. The urban trail will form the framework for the network will enabling safe, convenient travel from the heart of downtown Erie to the outer limits of the City and vice versa. Ultimately, this framework will be filled in to create a network that will ultimately provide comprehensive, safe and accessible biking and walking connectivity throughout the City of Erie. The urban trail and network will enable residents to have safe ways to walk and bike to key destinations (businesses, schools, homes, etc.) around and throughout the City of Erie. It will also help to attract tourists, increase the number and frequency of patrons at local businesses, help to improve the safety of people who bike and walk, encourage people to begin biking, help to increase the frequency and number of people who bike and walk, and generally help to improve the quality of life for everyone in Erie.
